Final project : Timelapse
While searching for ideas for my final project, I came across time lapse photos. The strange patterns instantly captured my interest and I decided to try it. I mean, it wouldn't be too hard to take multiple photos of a sunset and combine them right? WRONG, The combining part wasn't too difficult, the difficult part was actually photographing a sunset! I unfortunately forgot that we live in Vancouver, which also means that it's always cloudy, especially when you want it to be sunny. So instead of a sunset timelapse, I ended up with a timelapse photography of clouds, taken during sunset times. I think there's a sunset behind the clouds. Hopefully. Or perhaps I was facing the wrong direction the entire time. It's really quite hard to tell when it's covered by clouds..
Famous Photographer
My photographer really enjoyed taking more abstract photos of lines and shadows. This project was based on one of her works. I wanted to play with the lines and lighting of this photograph to create an interesting effect. The deep shadows almost seem to balance out the light top half. I've never really tried abstract photographs before and this was an interesting project.
Environmental Portraits
Environmental portraits gave me more freedom than the studio ones. Although I didn't have as much control over the setting, it was interesting to see the effect of the lighting and setting on the photograph. It gives me more freedom to try different things.
Portraits
Studio portraits are fun to play around with. Since I have a lot more control over the background, I can change a lot of variables until I achieve the desired look. But it was my first time using a studio, which means a lot of mistakes were made, and hopefully the benefits outweighed the mistakes.
Double Exposure
This project was horrible. It took forever, and it was really hard. Actually, it was really fun. It did take forever, but it was very interesting. Some of the photos are apparently slightly terrifying, but I like them. They turned out different from what I expected. I experimented a lot with photoshop, and I don’t think I’ll forget how to edit them anytime soon. All in all, it was a very interesting project, and please don’t make us do it again because I don’t have enough photos of people.
Levitation
Reading is one of my favourite hobbies. Not only is it an enjoyable past time, but it's also an escape from my hectic day-to-day life. As the theme for this project was escape, I immediately thought of books. This photo features my friend reading a book, while inside a book herself. Although it's hard to tell in this photo, she's actually reading the same book as the book underneath her. In short, she's reading her own life story, which is in it's own way, an escape from her destiny.
5 senses of fall
Fall makes me think of brightly colored leaves. I enjoyed doing this project, they made me appreciate the nice sunny days of fall more. Although my friend did end up slightly tired of throwing leaves while I tried to take a photo of them. I wanted to show not only the natural beauty, but also the child-like feeling fall brings with it. Fall always makes me think of kids playing outside, or going to school. I wanted my photos to capture the "senses" of fall. I wanted to take photos that reflected the cool, brisk weather of fall, and capture the crunchy sound of the leaves. I wanted to show my viewers the bright colors of fall, as well as the early nights. To me, the soft colors are as much a part of fall as the bright ones.
